Recently, 100 individuals have been recognized as the 2nd Youth Medical Top-Notch Talents of Hubei (2024-2027), with Doctor Liu Jiewei of this Center included, after procedures like expert review, organization audit and public disclosure according to requirements of the Implementation Plan for Hubei Medical Youth Top-notch Talents Cultivation.

Guided by Xi Jinping's thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, the Hubei Medical Youth Top-notch Talents Cultivation Program aims to cultivate a group of top-notch talents in medical innovation and development across Hubei Province, as well as youth medical talents with both morality and expertise, great performance, strong professional potentials and vast development spaces. The program plans to cultivate 100 youth medical top-notch talents in 4 years, making them a significant high-level talent reserve for the medical and health cause in Hubei. Wuhan Mental Health Center is a modernized mental health specialty hospital integrating medical care, teaching, research, prevention and rehabilitation. The hospital has built a “One Hospital Three Areas” development landscape, namely, “psychological health in Erqi Area, mental health in Liujiaoting Area and integrated rehabilitation treatment in Dongxihu Area”. Presently, the Center operates 1 provincial key clinical specialty, 2 municipal key clinical specialties and 3 key public health specialties. It currently runs specialty departments like Sleeping Disorder Section, Children Rehabilitation Department, Elderly Psychosomatic Disease Section and Psychological Trauma Section and specialties like obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and depressive disorder diagnosis and treatment, as well as psychological crisis intervention, are ranked top in China. The Center assumes responsibilities on a municipal level including quality control of psychiatric medicine, prevention and treatment of psychiatric conditions, technical guidance for social psychology, comprehensive management of patients with severe psychiatric disorders, psychological crisis intervention and assistance. The Center has been the first normalized training base for psychiatric clinical pharmacy among nationwide psychiatric specialty hospitals and is committed to building a synergistic psychological health service model integrating society, families, schools and medical institutions.

Mainly undertakes research in genetics of mental illness, integrative omics and functional genomics. He has published more than 40 SCI papers on renowned journals like Science Advances, BMC medicine, Biological Psychiatry, Genome medicine, Brain and Neuropsychopharmacology, 16 of which represent his major works (as First/Co-author, Correspondence/Co-correspondence author). He has presided over youth research project sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China, special basic research project sponsored by Yunnan Technology Department and recognized as Light of the West Class-B Talent Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wuhan Talent-Industry Leading Talent Program.
